It's snowing heavily here now. The roads are completely covered, so that put my plans of running to town and back for 20 miles off. It's too hard to run on slick roads and then contend with cars coming around sharp corners and down hills. I thought about going to Salt Fork to run on trails there, but it's still deer season (archery) here through February 4th, and I want to stay out of that area until then. Salt Fork State Park is a very popular deer hunting area.
So I am drinking coffee, watching it snow, and blogging. I screwed my shoes this morning in anticipation of the The Buckeye Trail 50K race this weekend. The trails should be a mixture of snow, ice and mud, so I hope the
screwed shoes
I'm going to go the gym for some weight training, and try out the stair climber that is new there. Then home for some treadmill time!

Kim,
I look forward to seeing you at the BT50k. I will be out there early parking cars like I promised Tonya, and then running the 50k....
Kurt and I ran the Pine Lane trail (the 8 mile loop) yesterday and it was just as you are expecting....snow covering mud that hadn't quite frozen yet. If it stays as cold as it is now all week, then the underneath will be solid by then. Kurt also ran Brandywine without me and he reports that creek crossing was impassable yesterday. There are normally about 10-12 boulders exposed with flat tops that you go across but the water was high enough to submerge them. I don't know what they will do race day if they are underwater....we will see. Maybe we can all get pole vault poles and just launch ourselves across! I am going to run the Brandywine loop midweek one day, so I will try to let you know how the stream is then.
I also did 15 miles this morning, then took my daughters over to the pool and swam a half mile.
Sorry you aren't able to get out and enjoy a nice snow run! I meant to comment on your plans leading up to Umstead. Are you planning on doing any night runs?
Hello, I was just listening to an old podcast by Steve Runner and he mentioned your blog, so I thought I'd check it out. I ran the BT50K last year, it was an absolute blast!! I had been planning on it being my first 50K, but I downgraded to the marathon after 6 hours (more than 2 hours longer than I'd ever run before!)
Here is a copy of my race report from the day, and gee, re-reading it, I wish I were out there with you!

Wow, I got mentioned in a podcast? How cool!! I listen to Phedippidations it would have been blown my mind to hear my blog mentioned lol!
With snow flakes falling as I write, I wonder if your title for today will become mine on Saturday when I try to drive to my 50K race. Have fun at your event this weekend!
